Why KeirEd

Every lesson starts from your child’s next assessment

A lot of tutoring follows its own set program. Every KeirEd lesson starts from the homework, assignment or test your child has at school this week.

A tutor matched to your child

Jake talks with you about how your child learns and what hasn’t worked before, and we choose the tutor from that. You see the tutor’s profile before the first lesson.

Starts from what’s due

Bring the homework sheet or the assignment task, and the lesson starts there. When a question shows a gap from an earlier year, the tutor goes back and fixes that first.

At home or online, 7 days a week

Lessons run between 7am and 10pm, in your home or online. Online lessons use Lessonspace, a shared whiteboard your child opens from a link with nothing to download.

Recordings and resources, free

Every online lesson is recorded, so your child can rewatch an explanation before a test. They also get free access to KeirEd+ Resources, our practice worksheets with full answers.

The same tutor every week

Your child keeps the same tutor, so they don’t have to start again with someone new. Lessons can run through the school holidays too.

A note after every lesson

The tutor tells you what your child worked on and what’s still giving them trouble. Every 10 lessons you also get a progress report, so you don’t have to wait for the report card.

Subjects

Every subject, Prep to Year 12

If it’s on your child’s school timetable, we tutor it, in every state and territory. Tell us the year level and subject, and we’ll match a tutor who knows your state’s curriculum.

How it works

Three steps from your free call to the first lesson

1

Answer a few questions

Tell us your child’s year level and subject, then pick a time for a free 15-minute call with Jake. It takes about two minutes.

2

Jake calls you, then we choose a tutor

Jake asks what your child needs help with and which times suit your family. Within 48 hours we text and email you the tutor’s profile and a time for the first lesson. Reply to confirm it, or ask for a different time.

3

The first lesson

The first lesson is a discovery session. The tutor finds where your child is up to, starts on the topic causing trouble and plans the lessons ahead. You get a written note straight after. If it isn’t the right fit, you don’t pay.

Questions parents ask

Answers before you book your free call

Getting started

Which subjects and year levels do you cover?

Every school subject from Prep to Year 12, including senior subjects and exam preparation for HSC, VCE, QCE, WACE, SACE, TCE, NTCET and IB, plus NAPLAN and selective school entry.

How much are lessons?

$79 per one-hour lesson online and $99 per one-hour lesson in your home. There’s no package to buy.

What’s included in the price?

Each price covers a one-hour lesson. It also includes a written note after every lesson, a progress report every 10 lessons and free access to KeirEd+ Resources, our practice worksheets with full answers. Online lessons are recorded for free, so your child can rewatch them.

When can lessons run?

Lessons run 7 days a week, between 7am and 10pm. You choose the time with your tutor.

How do online lessons work?

Online lessons run on Lessonspace. It’s a shared whiteboard with video, so the tutor sees your child’s working as they write it. Your child joins from a link on a laptop or tablet, with nothing to download.

How soon can lessons start?

We match your child with a tutor within 48 hours of your call with Jake. We then text and email you the tutor’s profile and a time for the first lesson, and you reply to confirm it. For in-home lessons, this depends on tutor availability in your suburb.

Next questions

How do you choose the tutor?

On the call, Jake asks what your child needs help with, how they learn and when they’re free. We choose the tutor from that, and you see their profile before the first lesson.

Are your tutors uni students?

Our tutors are a mix of teachers and top-performing university students in the subjects they tutor. We choose between them based on what suits your child.

What checks do tutors complete?

Every tutor has an interview with an ID check and a review of their experience and references. They also hold the working with children clearance their state requires.

Can we switch between online and in-home lessons?

Yes. If one isn’t working for your child, tell us and we’ll move you to the other, depending on tutor availability in your area.

When do we pay?

If the first lesson doesn’t suit your child, you pay nothing for it. After that, we bill each Monday for that week’s lessons. If you cancel a lesson with at least 8 hours’ notice, you’re not charged for it and the amount comes off your next bill.

Do we need to commit to a package?

No. There’s no minimum number of lessons, and you can pause or stop any time. Give at least 8 hours’ notice to cancel a lesson and you won’t be charged for it.

What happens on the call?

It’s a free 15-minute phone call with Jake at the time you pick. He asks what your child needs help with and which times suit your family. Booking the call doesn’t sign you up to anything, and there’s no payment.

Can my partner join the call?

Yes. Anyone involved in the decision is welcome on the call.

What to expect

What happens in the first lesson?

The first lesson is a discovery session. The tutor finds where your child is up to, starts on the topic causing trouble and plans the lessons ahead. You get a written note straight after.

Will my child have the same tutor each week?

Yes. Your child keeps the same tutor so they don’t have to start again with someone new. If a tutor ever has to stop, we choose the next one with you the same way.

Will I hear how the lessons are going?

Yes. After every lesson, the tutor sends you a written note on what your child worked on and what’s still giving them trouble. Every 10 lessons you also get a progress report.

Do lessons run in the school holidays?

Yes. Lessons can keep going through the school holidays if you want them to, apart from our break from Christmas Eve to early January.

Common worries

Will my child focus online?

This was the most common worry in our last parent survey. In an online lesson it’s just your child and the tutor, so there’s no class to drift off in. Lessons run on Lessonspace, a shared whiteboard where the tutor sees your child’s working as they write it. Every online lesson is recorded, so your child can go back over it. If online isn’t working, you can switch to lessons in your home, depending on tutor availability in your area.

Failing maths → A student
“I initially wasn’t sure if she would connect with a tutor & especially online. … She has gone from failing maths last year to being an A student this year.”
Emmy, KeirEd parent
Is it worth the money?

There’s no package, so you only pay for the lessons your child has, and you can pause or stop any time. After every lesson you get a written note on what your child worked on and what’s still giving them trouble, and every 10 lessons you get a progress report. You can see what each lesson is doing.

“The most engaged part of the week is with our tutor. … Its worth the money.”
Fiona, KeirEd parent
What if the tutor doesn’t suit my child?

We choose the tutor from what you tell Jake about your child, including what hasn’t worked before, and you see the tutor’s profile before the first lesson. If the first lesson isn’t the right fit, you won’t pay for it and we’ll find another tutor. If the fit stops working at any point later on, we rematch you at no cost.

“The approach is structured and supported and there is genuine interest in matching your child with a tutor who is a good fit.”
Halie, KeirEd parent
My child won’t ask for help in class. Will this work?

Some children would rather stay quiet than get an answer wrong in front of the class. In a one-on-one lesson nobody else is watching, so they ask the question they’ve been sitting on.

“My child doesn’t hesitate to saying not understand & needing help.”
Farjana, KeirEd parent
We’ve tried tutoring before and nothing changed. Why is this different?

Tell Jake what happened when he calls you, and we use it to choose the tutor. The note after every lesson and the progress report every 10 lessons show you whether it’s working, without waiting for a report card.

50% → 72% on her mock exam
“Her assessment results were poor - around 50% and below. … In her last mock exam she achieved 72%. This has boosted her confidence.”
Stacey, KeirEd parent, Year 12 English (VCE)
